At DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, a leading healthcare provider, we are
seeking a skilled Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist to join our
team. As a Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist, you will play a
vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing
to a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology,
emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic
services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify patient identity and review medical records for
appropriateness of exam or procedure.
- Interview patients to obtain, verify, or update medical history
and assess risk factors.
- Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of
pharmaceuticals, risks, benefits, alternatives, and
follow-up.
- Set up equipment and acquire images as per script, reviewing
images and making initial observations, documenting exceptions from
established protocols, and communicating data to
radiologists.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, providing
physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients.
- Participate in process improvement activities within radiology
practice, including quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat
analysis, and patient satisfaction, as well as providing imaging
education to residents.
Qualifications:
- Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical
Sonography (ARMDS) or registered by the American Registry of
Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography (S).
- Required to have or successfully complete American Heart
Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS)
training by end of orientation period.
- Registered in specialty within 12 months of employment in area
of discipline.
Skills Required:
- Analytical and clinical skills necessary to determine the most
age-appropriate method of providing requested ultrasound specific
to patient's physical ability and/or limitations.
- Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal
effectively with and instruct patients who may be under
physical/emotional stress, ability to comprehend and follow
physicians' verbal and written requests and prescriptions, and
ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse atmosphere with
a variety of hospital personnel and/or patients.
- Technical knowledge necessary to operate equipment, including
but not limited to all specialized equipment and
computers.
- Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex
environment, handle multiple/changing priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding of American College of Radiology
requirements for accreditation.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and
positioning of patients, physical ability to stand, bend, push,
pull, reach, and lift in order to provide patient care.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate and utilize all
types of imaging equipment and supplies in order to produce images
of acceptable diagnostic quality.
